Children’s individual and or group psychotherapy sessions are open to 5 year olds plus and are designed to offer therapeutic support to children who have or are experiencing emotional difficulties such as aggressive acting out, eating difficulties, sleeplessness and general anxieties. Initial consultations are held with the parents to establish a developmental history and evaluate the difficulties being encountered. Regular parental reviews will be an aspect of the child’s therapy.

Play Therapy

A child’s natural means of communication is through play. Children’s feelings are often inaccessible at a verbal level. The child’s internal world comprises of combination of concrete external experiences and internal phantasy. They are full of big feelings which can be overwhelming. Play has many functions in the child’s world as a means of communicating, it’s a way of coping with and learning about the world, it’s a way of processing all feelings. Play therapy, provides a natural environment in which children can fully express and explore self (feelings, thoughts, experiences and behaviours) required for optimal growth and development (Landreth, 2002).
